Laos! Cool facts.

Laos is located in South East Asia (18 00N, 105 00 E). It is about 236,800 sq km - a little larger than Utah. Its boundaries add up to 5000km and there is no coastline. Laos is a tropical monsoon, and the terrain consists of mostly rugged terrain. The lowest point is at 70m and the highest is at 2817m. Temperatures in the mountains can drop down to around 15 degrees celsius. but is averagely about 29 degrees celsius - however, it can also go up to 38 degrees!
You must be 15 years old to join Lao People's army. There are 1.5 million people in this army, and compared to other countries, it is small and not powerful. However, there is a secret army trained by the CIA in Guerilla warfare.
The Lao government is communist, but the legal system has not changed since the French control. Laos has a president.
The population of Laos is 6,834,942. 85% of this population is Laotian, and 67% are buddhist.
Laos has 42 airports, 10 of these are paved and the other 32 unpaved. The local airline is Lao Airlines. Laos also has 22,000km of highway - 12,000 of this is unpaved. In Laos, people also travel by boat along the Mekong river.
Laos' GDP is 3,403,670,000 and the PPP is 11,208,000,000. Although the GDP is small in comparison with the US or France, its growth is 7.5% per year. Moreover, Laos uses 16.4% of their GDP to aid itself and other countries.
The languages spoken in Laos are French and English (main). The Laotians descended from tai people from southern China and Vietnam. Khawp jai Lao means thank you.
The ethnic groups in Laos are Katu, Khmuic, Tibrto-Burman, Itmong-Mien, Tai and Chinese.

Laos is a fascinating country with a rich history from Asia and Europe. This country is developing very fast and may soon become first world.
